  • It’s FRIIIIYYYAAAAAYYYYY! ❤️ *FINALLY* got round to opening the Chateau Potensac 2013 found in Lidl a few months ago for about half the price it should have been. Opened with friends on a trip to Bristol. 🍷 If you love wine which makes you think, which requires you to sit up and pay attention and mull it over, then this is a great bottle to open. Still young, I’ve got a couple more of these I’m keeping for another 10 years or so to see how they develop. It had some fantastic notes emanating from the outset, although the nose needed time to develop. I also made the mistake of not decanting, so it didn’t open up the way I was expecting it to. Nonetheless, brilliant pour, silky smooth and long, dried red fruits marries nicely with a faint earthiness in the middle. This should grow nicely with decanting/breathing, and a few more years laid down. Very pleased! 🍇 PS @lidluk currently running their French wine tour at the moment with some absolute STONKERS available. • What a “pfaffl”... 😜 . Tried this Grüner Veltliner from the Pfaffl winery - European Winery of the Year back in 2016 - and I’ve had a GV from them a couple of years ago. My memory of it from then was one of crisp, fresh minerality, a long finish, lovely stone fruit notes. 🍇 Sadly, this 2017 pour didn’t quite match up to that memory. Shorter on the finish, a little ‘zingy’ on the palate and the minerality was lacking. Still, had I not been comparing to another year, this was still a delightful wine for great value. Less than £7, served at 10-12 degs, it was a great pour. Love the robustness and balance, v tasty 👌🏼 🍷 #whattodrinktonight #whattodrink #grunerveltliner #austrianwine #whitewine #instawine #winegeek #winelover #winestagram #wine #winetravel #wineblogger #londonwine #wineoclock #pourthis

  • First time I had dinner with my friend @nmratnam we had probably a little bit too much to drink. So this time we were a bit more measured, and stuck to just a delicious Brunello Di Montalcino and a 2000 CNDP from Chateaux Telegraph. 🕺🏼 Italian wines are not my forte but they are a particular passion of his, so I asked for a lesson. This was delightfully floral, earthy, and smooth - more like a Bordeaux from the 80s than a 2009 Cab!! Ok that’s an exaggeration, there was still a lot of youthfulness in it and some spice and black cherry but the depth and length were astounding. 🌷 I’ve never had Chateauneuf du Pape before. I’ve always avoided it in supermarkets because I knew it wouldn’t be the best value - so clearly I’m now spoiled for life! This was a fantastic bottle, floral and delicate, an complex glass but with serious drinkability. Smooth on the tannins and a perfect bottle to have alone or with lightly roasted meats. • Big Black Reds - ‘tis the season! 🍷 It’s been a while since I’ve had such a big red! This Baciato 2015 had a Colour which was almost black, taste of raisins, bramble and a light black pepper spice to the end. Absolute stunner Salento/Puglian offering and literally awesome example of negroamaro appassimento (where some of the grapes are left on the vine to dry and added giving it a mad concentration of juice, to an already juicy grape because of all the sunshine the region gets) - intense and demands your attention, you better give it! ☀️ What’s your fave big red? Do you, like me, drink Big Reds year round, or only when the nights draw in and the weather turns cooler? 🔥 @virginwines for £15 #whattodrinktonight #whattodrink #winestory #winetasting #winestagram #wine #winegeek #italian #redwine #vinorosso #winelover #thirstythursday #wineoclock #winetime #winewinewine

  • Greek wine from @lidluk . I’ve started playing a new game when I go to Lidl for wine. Look for a single bottle (normally at the back of a shelf behind other stuff) with no price label, and see what it comes up as at the till and how it tastes when I get it home. It’s like Russian roulette with Lidl Vino, and so far I’ve won each time. . I was intrigued by this lonely bottle and was a little sceptical when it came up less than £5. But I took it home all the same, and boy was I glad!! 🍷 The deep black crimson colour is deceptive, as the nose is bright and youthful. On the palate nice and smooth, although still obviously young and energetic with the tannins. The thing I like about Greek wine is that it always displays interesting fruit notes such as açai berries, a sweet-and-saltiness not quite replicated in other countries, but the softness of a merlot at the same time. 🍇 Delicious wine, and I’ve now seen it fully stocked in @lidlwinecellar, so I guess I just got the last of the previous batch! Great fun wine! 😋 #whattodrinktonight #whattodrink #greekwine #affordable #redwine #winetasting #tastingnotes #winegeek #winelover #wineo #winestagram #londonwine

  • This time of year (read: any time of year) is Pinot Noir season, IMHO. The grape of champions. A toughie to grow but one which comes with so many rewards for those who embark on that journey! 🍷 It’s so delightful to see shops like @aldiuk bringing affordable versions to the market these days. This bottle will set you back a fiver - less in fact! - and is a cracking example of the beauty these wines can have. This one from Chile was even more complex than the Californian one I tried recently which was double the price. This had bright red berries and tasted like a dream, but with a nice rusty colour instead of a garish bright red you might expect from a cheaper red. Great length in the palate too. The only downside was when I came to try it again the next day it wasn’t nearly as good - this is definitely a young wine which is drinking now - and all in one go! I’ve already stocked up with more. Cheers! 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 #whattodrinktonight #whattodrinkthisweekend #londonwine #wine #vino #vin #winelover #winetasting #tastingnotes #winestagram #pinotnoir #chile

  • Back to the BBQ again - this weather is unreal! Time to spend Sunday the right way - outdoors, glass of wine in hand, with good food and good company. 🍷 Our recommendation, a selection of reds to progress through as the sun goes down. I always like a Pinot Noir followed by a Cabernet Sauvignon. Here I have a Californian Pinot Noir from Redtree Wineries, available in @aldiuk (£7.99) followed by Teja Roja 2016 from @laithwaites.wine (£6.99). Very different wines - one fruity and delicate and one big and bold - both stupendous in 30+ deg summers! Cheers! 🍇 #WhatToDrinkTonight #whattodrinkthisweekend #londonwine #redwine #winelover #winetasting #bbq #winestagram #winefly #weekendwine

  • It’s serious BBQ weather right now! And now the weekend on top of that! Life is good! 🌞 Who else is spending every available moment soaking up the sun with good food and good wine, optional company? 😇🙌🏼 🌞 Posted about this bottle on my story before, it’s an absolute cracker! Argentinan Malbec from Pedernal Valley, 2017 vintage, incredible flavour and strength! Bright crimson colour, plummy and ripe, long finish, mouthfilling with silly tannins - absolutely love it! Available now at @aldiuk for less than £8 and you’ll think you’re drink £10+! Absolute steal! 🍇 You may know Argentina is famous for its Malbec, but did you know the grape is originally from Cahors, France and although the grape was introduced to the region in the 1600s it wasn’t until the 1990s that it rose in popularity, and only since 2003 has it been the most planted grape in the country?? 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 #whattodrinktonight #whattodrinkthisweekend #londonwine #wine #vino #vin #winelover #winetasting #tastingnotes #winestagram #winehistory #argentina #malbec

  • Gotta love this BBQ game 🌞 🌞 🌞 Staying fresh in this hot weather with a great rosé from Languedoc, Les Grands Chemise 2016. Great levels of summer fruit without being too sweet, just right to keep cool when roasting in this Heatwave Mk 2 engulfing London right now and pairing with bbq burgers - despite lacking the desired depth of a proper red, it still goes nicely. Cheers @virginwines for including it in your rosé case! 🍇 🍇 🍇 🍇 #whattodrinktonight #weekendwine #londonwine #rosé #wine #french #languedoc

  • There’s always an excuse for bubbles in my book! And if you’re not willing to shell out north of £50 every night for the pleasure, then maybe this could do in the interim until time to pop that special bottle. . Pierre Royale, rosé brut, French sparkling. A tasty number, not quite the quality of £50 counterparts of course, but at a tenth of the price it’s still fantastic. A taste Summer berries, moussy bubbles and soft on the finish. Absolutely perfect on these hot, muggy, long summer evenings we’re getting in the capital. . Available from @lidlwinecellar for just over a fiver. Well worth it. Single Vineyard Estate Bottled Cabernet-Syrah blend crafted to perfection in Chile to let you slip into delightful delirium after first sip... what a wonder! • Here is a wonderful rosé to enjoy as we start to move in the ‘summer’ here in London. @nakedwines stock Virgile Jolly’s range of wines, and this is a particularly stunning bottle. From the elegant, right through to the balanced finished, a true piece of artwork. You’ve got to try this! Grab a bottle, get out in the sunshine and enjoy this either by itself or some flavoursome foods (I enjoyed this with tuna steak, just sayin’) 🍇 🍇 🍇 🍇 Light in colour, but clear and alluring. Made with carignan grapes, the nose is fresh with strawberries just on the turn, but with hints of the riper red berries known of the grape. On the palate, some floral notes and bright summer fruits balanced nicely with acidity of Granny Smith apples and zesty limes, without overpowering the freshness. Gorgeous. 🍓 🍓 🍓 🍓 #whattodrinktonight #whattodrinkthisweekend #wine #wineoclock #winetime #winestagram #instawine #winegeek #vino #vin #vinho #wineenthusiast #londonwine #oenology #winetravel #winetasting #winesofinstagram

  • What’s the best thing to wake up to after an amazing dinner with delicious wine? A delicious brunch with bubbles of course!! 🍾 🍾 🍾 🍾 🍾 Prosecco is delicious - I don’t care what anyone says. It’s not as complex or mature or punchy as champagne or some English sparkling we have available now. It’s certainly a lot sweeter, the bubbles are generally softer, and it’s got that unshakeable reputation of being cheap... but look, it’s still tasty, and isn’t that what it’s all about?? 🥂 🥂 🥂 🥂 🥂 This offering from Il Papavero (stocked by @laithwaites.wine ) is one of those proseccos that will actually have you thinking a little more about what’s in the glass than most stuff you’ll get in big supermarkets. All main tasting notes from prosecco are present - green apples, melon, honeysuckle, but with a depth not offered by most. I think any prosecco-doubters will be pleasantly surprised! 🍾 🍾 🍾 🍾 🍾 #whattodrinktonight #whattodrinkthisweekend #bubbles #prosecco #brunch #winestagram

  • As the warmer weather slowly starts creeping through London, we are really enjoying dinners of smaller bites, tapas-style, fresh veg and herbs, cheese and breads, have as much or as little as you want, and of course, plenty of wine. 🍇 🍇 🍇 🍇 🍇 Opened this gorgeous bottle of 2015 Barossa Valley Shiraz from @fortnums - a heavy wine indeed but so good with all the different types of food. Paired perfectly with the strips of steak, complemented the cheese, the chicken, and stood up to the acidity of the tomatoes. • • • • • Beautiful aromas on the nose, ripe red berries and cassis, with a gorgeous deep black-violet colour. Taste: blackberries and chocolate, some earthiness and smokey pepper, but heavier towards the fruit; quite jammy, with a bite of liquorice trough the long finish it boasts. It’s great!! Drinking fine now, could be left for another couple of years but if you’re impatient like me then you won’t be disappointed if you have it now 👌🏼😜 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 #whattodrinktonight #whattodrinkthisweekend #redwine #foodandwine #winetasting #londonwine
