Europe 2018 - Day 9/58: Hallstatt, Austria.
This is one of the prettiest towns I have been so far! 'Picture-perfect', 'postcard-ready', "fairy tale town" are some of the words commonly used to describe this little lake side village and I couldn't agree more! I came to know about Hallstatt after viewing a very picturesque photo on 500 px site. I loved the photo so much that I immediately searched for it and saved it on my Google Maps! I couldn't wait to visit this place. I was lucky I got a ride to this town from my newly made Indian friends in Obetraun! They dropped me at the tourist info center and carried on with their journey.
I was really surprised to see the sheer number of visitors to this place. Little did I know that the population of this town was less than 800 people but the total number of tourists to this place goes up to 800,000! I can understand why so many people would want to visit this UNESCO world heritage site! I walked in wonder as I passed by the 19th century wooden buildings adorned with tender flowers, lake side cafes, and the countless souvenir shops. I continued to walk further to the Classic Village Viewpoint where I could capture a perfect postcard picture! I couldn't help but kept clicking so many pic (in vain) in order to capture as much beauty I could! How could it be possible?
Mind you, everything here is super expensive. So I had carried my own lunch - MTR Besi Bele Bath! I stopped by a waterfront and sat on the steps and enjoyed my meal as I watched ducks swim by! I wanted to get back to my hotel before 6 pm as huge rains were predicted! I had figured out the bus info and made sure I was in time at the bus stop. There was a direct bus to the cable car station and I was super relieved! As soon as I reached my hotel up the mountains, it started to pour! Pheew.
Did you know that the Chinese were so impressed by little town that they have built a replica of Hallstatt in China?! Google for 'Hallstatt China' to know more.
Can someone tell me the name of the flowering plants seen here? I wish I could have a mini terrace garden with these. 😍
