THORACIC SPINE MOBILITY
Let's talk t-spine mobility.
The thoracic spine is an area of the body that people love to snap, crackle, and pop. Often this gives a nice (temporary) improvement in symptoms. I've used thoracic spine manipulations/mobilizations many times in the past for a variety of reasons for things like neck pain, mid back pain, and shoulder pain. But those techniques make up <1% of the treatment.
Often one of the reasons we feel we need to crack our backs is stiffness. The joint feels tight or stiff and we lay on a foam roller to improve it. In my view, there's nothing inherently wrong with that as long as you know that it's just a temporary symptom modulation and follow it up with movement.
To improve stiffness in a joint long term, movement is your solution. (I know, very surprising) And to keep that stiffness from coming back, frequent movement coupled with progressive overload is going to be the mainstay.
1️⃣ T-spine TRX bilateral rotation (easy)
2️⃣ Inclined TRX unilateral rotation
3️⃣ Vertical TRX unilateral rotation
4️⃣ foot Elevated TRX unilateral rotation (advanced)
As always, you don't HAVE to do the hard ones I post. It's not a necessity to get to the point where you're doing the advanced movements. "But then which one should I do?" It depends. If you want me to outline a specific program and how you should progress it to meet your goals, then work with me on a remote consult.

Here's the deal, I rarely have people track on Thanksgiving and Christmas day. It's about family, cooking, eating, giving and that's it! So don't even bother logging in to MyFit Pal those days - seriously - no matter where you are in your periodization :) #
But there are some things I DO want you to think about…
Step 1: Define Success.
You need a clear vision of what success looks like for you.
This will give you a north star when you’re making decisions about where, when and if you’d like to indulge. Where are you in your journey and how would you like to feel on January 1st when the hustle and bustle of the holiday season ends?
Step 2: Prioritize.
Grab a calendar, write down all of your engagements and commitments and prioritize!
Once you have the dates laid out, decide where and when you want to indulge and when it makes the most sense to stick to the healthiest options possible.
Step 3: Optimize.
Consistency over time is where the magic happens. To ensure that a few more indulgent meals don’t add up and slow down your journey to your goals, optimize the days when you don’t have much going on and really commit to making healthy choices that fuel your body.
Think 80% normal, healthy foods with a gym session thrown in and 20% holiday fun :) #
Step 4: Create Accountability.
Partner, friend, coach (nutrition, lifestyle or athletic!) you name it! Enrolling others will let them hold you accountable when you’re needing a little extra support to stick with it.
Step 5: Trust (and Be Kind to) Yourself.
Balance and flexibility are necessary parts of any lifestyle habit that is going to stick long term. Remember that the hard work you’ve been putting into getting to know your body and what makes it tick isn’t going anywhere this season and it will always be there for you to come back to!

Fist Push-ups! Seriously, I posted my workout in my stories yesterday and I couldn't believe how many comments I received. Yes they look and make me feel completely BADASS and they also help me strengthen and stabilize my wrist joints. But another reason I do them is because when I'm having a day where I feel less than optimal, where my workouts feel a little lame or weak, then doing something like this makes me have a "small win". That small win is very important to our well being. Try it. Even if you are off-kilter, do something that elevates you and makes you feel good about yourself and then watch that make a difference to your whole day.

“As a novice yogi (and even more novice handstand-er) and a solid introvert, I felt I was taking a big chance when I signed up to go to the Yoga Adventure Retreat in Leavenworth, WA.
