Being a mom is hard work. Being a mom and a tattooer is even harder work.
To all the moms out there who are making a living tattooing and supporting a family in this industry, be blessed. Keep going strong. •
Tattooing is crazy right now. I started 10 years ago- before all the social media madness....Before the constant influx of inspiration and knowledge of other artists to look up to, reference or feel inspired by. We had some Facebook action back then, but that’s about it....and it’s so easy for us to look at these new, up and coming youngster tattooers who are killing it 2, 4, 6 years in and get super bummed out. I’m guilty. For sure.
As moms, we wish we could dedicate more time to art and painting and tattooing...and with all of the incredible artists making their way into discovery, we feel such great pressure to do so...but we can’t. We have so much more to give to our families....Our children, our spouses.
Sometimes we feel guilty for not being able to put more effort into tattooing and painting. God knows how often I dream of having just a few hours to myself to paint, paint, paint. Draw something new, explore a style I’ve not done before....but, impossible. It’s not happening. Not right now anyway. Maybe another day. •
We are mommas. And a lot of us are wives too. Our hearts expand into more than just tattooing. We can’t bare the thought of losing out on precious moments with our babies- making them breakfast, having tickle sessions, doing a dance party or making cupcakes at 10pm for the class party the next day. We don’t want to miss out on showing our spouses that we care, they too are top priority in our lives.....and on top of all this, many of us moms are doing all we can to maintain a good self-care regimen. We are doing our best to love our own bodies by exercising, planning healthy meals for our whole family...and we are doing our best to take care of our emotional and spiritual well being....this is all of our time in the world.
These are things that single tattooers just don’t see, they don’t grasp it. And we have to be TOTALLY ok with that. We can’t compare our lives.
