Pet Appreciation Post!
Before ever getting Calavera, I was super nervous about being able to get her environment where it needed to be and was worried about struggling to keep it going once it was there.
It took me a bit to get it perfect but it’s gotten there and I have it down pat now.
When I first got her, she refused to eat. I eventually had to assist feed her for her first two feeds. Third feed she struck on her own and everything. The first time she ate was THE BIGGEST relief ever. I stressed so bad about it. When she struck for the first time, I was OVER THE MOON. She’s now the best eater ever. She eats regardless of shedding, I can go from F/T to live and back. She doesn’t care.
It’s also the coolest, most fascinating thing watching how snakes eat.
She is great with being handled and once she’s settled in your hands I can touch her face and head and she doesn’t flinch and hide.
Her first shed, I was out of town so I couldn’t have her environment as perfect as it would’ve been had I been there. So her shed cage off in pieces. 😞
I was here this time and when I found this...I was so excited. A FULL SHED. Makes me beam knowing all the work for her is worth it.
So, thank you Calavera for being the BEST scale baby ever. ❤️
Hooman bought us a new log, and some calcium powder without D3 in it for us to try! Chip didn't seem to show much care for the powder, but was sniffing and standing on the new log. But as for me, I love the powder! ~Blep👅! #leopardgeckosofinstagram#leopardgeckos#reptile#gecko
Lifer! This is called an Ameiva Wetmorei, or the Puerto Rican blue-tailed ameiva. I uncovered him in the surrounding area of Faro Los Morrillos de Cabo Rojo. Such a cool little guy! They’re endemic to this SW region of Puerto Rico and hunt for little bugs and critters. I showed a couple local cave guides and they were a little jealous they had never seen one before. Super stoked on this find! They are a vulnerable species, threatened by habitat loss and predation from feral cats and mongooses.
I only like tong fed roaches ma' you think I'm a wild #reptile or something? ¿ #beardeddragon#reptiles
Ps this is when Odin first arrived to my house, his strubstrate consist of the world's finest.... newspaper!! 😋 I often recommend using newspaper or paper towel for a lot of common reptiles such as some snake species, leopard geckos and beardies this is because for one, its easy to clean and two, no chance of loose substrate impaction!!
