Day 7: The next day I discovered how wise it was to stay in the Bivacco and not attempt that suicide path up to the so called Forca Dell Alpino. What 'only' looked like a bit of madness going over a former avalange of now tiny loose rocks, turned into everything from walking on basically sliding eggshells to 90° climbing up and down steep mountain walls. Arriving at the top I thought for a second, I finally made it, a second later I turned a bit grey looking down the other side. Bad luck. The way down turned even more difficult then the way up.
It is one thing to be fit enough to manage such routes with a 15kg backpack, and I am. A completely different thing to have 200% full focus for 5hours straight with not one thought wandering. NOT ONE. Try for just 40sec to not think about anything, you'll figure how difficult it is.
But in this situation you have to master that. You loose focus, a thought distracts you, makes your mind wander, you fall. Or rather slide into happy death, as no matter how steep every footstep was, it was covered in loose slippery sliding rock. .
Such situations truly teach you not to think. Not getting distracted by thought. Neither thinking about the past nor spinning scenarios of possible futures. It brings you to the NOW, to BEING, to 100% awareness of what IS in this moment. This is the beauty in those situations as much as they are intimidating and frightening at the same time.
I don't recommend to climb a suicide trail but do something that requires your 100% attention and focus and every distracting thought will make you pay significantly. You will realize what I mean. Words don't hit it, you have to experience it. And more importantly, be aware of it and transfer the experienced into learned and into life.
