March 11, 2016 - Mesa Arizona Temple
"Bless those, O Father, who have been called to preside and labor in this temple and also in other temples that have been erected to Thy holy name. We thank Thee for all the temples that have been erected in this last dispensation, and we pray Thee choice blessings to be and abide with all those who minister therein. We pray that the same sweet spirit which is present in all of the temples that have heretofore been erected may abide with all those who shall labor in this holy house."
-President Heber J. Grant
On Sunday, October 23, 1927 Heber J. Grant dedicated the Arizona Temple; it was just the seventh Temple the Church had built since moving west from Nauvoo. Today marks the 91st anniversary of that dedication. Since then millions of Latter-day Saints have entered this sacred building to receive their own saving ordinances, be sealed to their spouses, or do work for those who have already passed on. I will never forget that special day four years ago when I received my Endowments in this Temple!
This past May 19th the Mesa Arizona Temple shut its doors for the last time for the following two years in preparation for an extensive remodel project. We were blessed by being able to walk the grounds one last time the following day. However, everything began to change the day after. The landscaping on the grounds has since been almost entirely removed, a good portion of the interior has been gutted, and the Visitors' Center has been completely demolished. Pretty much just the exterior of the Temple remains, and it is surrounded by sandy desert soil and a select few historical trees that have been preserved. (Continued in comments)
