  • Sophie Nys’ work will be included in the exhibition ´B-Sides’ by Saloon in the spaces of Komplot, Brussels. After travelling to Siberia to register the head of Lenin, the biggest head ever sculptured, Sophie Nys compared the reality of registering the head with her imagination and fascination for the sculpture before. - « I was intrigued - when I got back the developed and scanned film - by the no-nonsens images on a head. • Donald Judd, Lascaux 89-64, 1989, acrylic on aluminium, 40 x 180 x 30 cm. Donald Judd is one of the pioneers of American Minimal Art. With his ´Specific Objects’ Donald Judd gave shape to the minimalist objective to create autonomous and non-referential works of art. These objects belong to a vast and original vocabulary of forms, including stacks, blocks and progressions that challenge existing categories such as sculpture and painting. Only tomorrow still on view as part of our current group show Wiggle! #donaldjudd #sculpture #specificobjects #art #contemporaryart #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • Richard Tuttle, Lamp, 1985-1987, cardboard, paper, gouache, steel wire, 121 x 77 x 21,5 cm. This piece is part of our current group show Wiggle and only a few more days on view! Richard Tuttle has thrown into question nearly every conceivable artistic convention and critical category to create an enormously inventive body of abstract work - one that embraces and intermingles drawing, painting, collage, book-making, sculpture and design. From his spare yet enigmatic forms of the 1960s to his complex, multi-faceted assemblages and installations, Tuttle’s primary impetus throughout has been to craft unique objects, using everyday, often ephemeral material, that demand to be confronted on their own terms. The relentless individuality of his aesthetic vision has earned him standing as one of the most provocative and influential artists of his day. #richardtuttle #tuttle #lamp #wiggle #art #contemporaryart #exhibition #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • LAST DAYS to see the group show Wiggle at the gallery. With work by Louise Lawler, Richard Tuttle, Diane Simpson, Ricky Swallow, ... the selection of works on view promotes an understanding of materiality that goes beyond its definite meaning. Instead of approaching sculpture as a medium with a set of established conventions, one is invited to consider “medium” in the broader sense of the word, as that which literally stands in-between. At odds with the fixity usually attributed to most sculptural forms, this slight change of perspective helps to situate sculptures as intervening elements through which impressions are conveyed, and physicality transmitted. #louiselawler #richardtuttle #dianesimpson #rickyswallow #wiggle #groupshow #art #contemporaryart #exhibition #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • Edith Dekyndt, Havbro, 2016, silver leaf on carpet, 240 x 170 cm. Edith Dekyndt draws on natural and physical phenomena in her work, she explores the properties of materials, she focuses upon what does not readily grab our attention, however her works invite us to change not only the way we look at things but also our way of being and influencing the world. By repositioning objects in one and the same continuous current she prompts us to see what often eludes us and remains invisible. As a nomadic artist, her works are born of the time and place in which she conceives them. The context is even more vital, for it does not merely play host to her pieces but also determines their physical characteristics and interacts with them. The work Havbro is seen here in 2018 and 2016, the work reveals the passing of time through the oxidation process, not simply as a finished frozen visual form that the viewer need only look at, it is at the same time the creative process itself, the work in the making, taking on life and evolving before one’s eyes in accordance with a set of circumstances that govern its evolution. #edithdekyndt #havbro #carpet #silver #silverleaf #friezelondon #galeriegretameert #art #contemporaryart

  • Terry Adkins, Tonsure, 2010, black medicine ball, fur, books. This work is part of the group show Wiggle, currently on view at the gallery until October 20. The artist, Terry Adkins (1953-2014), had an early inclination for music, in his youth he performed with Sun Ra and other jazz ensembles. His practice is characterized by multiplicity, hybridity and collaboration. Adkin’s work always constitutes an attempt to render immaterial qualities of energy and frequencies present in the matter around him. Using locally sourced items and materials such as musical instruments his sculptures often invoke performativity. #terryadkins #sculpture #wiggle #art #contemporaryart #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • Jean-Luc Moulene, Caisse à souffle (moiré machine/main) (Paris, 2017). Jean-Luc Moulene sets out to remove the boundaries between heterogeneous world: art and media, art objects and mass produced objects, utility value and artistic value. Throughout his work, the artist has been exploring the nature of artistic labor and what it means to « author a work of art ». His practice is characterized by the wide variety of materials he uses along with his keen sense of observation and analysis of the world that surrounds him. From his point of view, art is not peaceful, an artwork always contains a yes and a no and it is the task of the viewer to find and define their own position. This work is part of our group show Wiggle and on view until October 30. #jeanlucmoulene #sculpture #exhibition #contemporaryart #art #gallery #brussels #wiggle #galeriegretameert

  • Diane Simpson, Found Collar, 2009, cotton collar, light density fiberboard, Gatorfoam board, enamel. This piece is part of the current group show Wiggle at the gallery. Diane Simpson’s work is inspired by the worlds of applied arts such as clothing structures, furniture, utilitarian objects and vernacular industrial architecture, which she then transforms and reinvents. These structures serve as vehicles for exploring functional and sociological roles. Beginning with specific references, her sculptures are abstracted versions that also retain the essence of their initial source. #dianesimpson #collar #sculpture #contemporaryart #art #exhibition #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert #wiggle

  • While the notion of materiality seems fairly straightforward when used in the context of sculpture, the selection of works on view promotes an understanding of materiality that goes beyond its definite meaning. If sculpture is that thing that you “bump into while you back up to look at a painting” as it was notoriously stated by painter Ad Reinhardt, the present exhibition willfully dodges the modernist joke. #jeanlucmoulene #donaldjudd #sculpture #art #contemporaryart #exhibition #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • #Repost @galeriegretameert ・・・ Erika Verzutti, Turtle, 2015, bronze. Erika Verzutti’s work explores the ways in which the insular act of creation becomes intertwined with the physical world. Drawing on both the natural and the artificial, Verzutti’s sculptures and reliefs equally evoke the familiar forms they represent and the abstract results of material exploration. While it remains firmly rooted within a studio practice, her work demonstrates the continuously evolving relationship between ideation and process. This work is part of the group show Wiggle, on view at the gallery until October 20th. #erikaverzutti #turtle #bronze #sculpture #exhibition #art #contemporaryart #artgallery #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • Currently at the gallery as part of the group show Wiggle: this work by Carl Andre titled ‘Carbon Fine Train’. Throughout his work Andre seeks to eliminate anything decorative or extraneous. As a sculptor, he neither carves nor models but simply focuses on sorting and placing. His sculptures are the product of a lifelong interest in the properties of matter. « You can accomplish almost any task if you break it down to units of work small enough to fit your capacities. Thus my sculptures are almost always lines or fields of particles light enough for me to move easily. Hence they are clastic too. People ask me at what point do I know when to stop. The only answer I have come up with so far is ´when I run out of me ´ » - Carl Andre The sculpture group show Wiggle is on view until October 20 at the gallery. #carlandre #carbon #sculpture #minimalism #groupshow #art #contemporaryart #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • Anne Neukamp’s show ´The Prop Master’ at the Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery, University of the Arts Philadelphia is on view until 30 september. Anne Neukamp uses motifs and elements in her work that derive from our everyday decor, the image archive of the consumer society: cartoon characters and mascots, heraldic details, letters from the newspaper and advertising pictograms. She allows these functional signs and images, designed for efficiency, to become fragments beneath layers of painting or even to disappear entirely. She puts them together in new and different ways, stripping them from their univalent impact. Her works move within a logic of shifting and undermining and stimulate the most diverse interpretations. At the same time, through their occassionally cheeky imagery, they appear to flirt with the expectations of the market. • Ricky Swallow, Reclining Sculpture (open) #6, 2017, patinated bronze. This work by Ricky Swallow is currently on view as part of the gallery’s group show Wiggle. Ricky Swallow’s work shows his interest in the beauty and emotional charge everyday objects can carry, as he elevates their humble functions and properties aesthetically and empathically. He has been described as a bricoleur, an uncommon mind with the skill to cull the marvelous from the ordinary through playful and surreal transmutations and juxtapositions. #rickyswallow #sculpture #red #bronze #groupshow #exhibition #wiggle #contemporaryart #art #artgallery #gallery #brussels #galeriegretameert

  • Last weeks to visit our show with work by Carlos Caballero! On view until 30th of June, the work of Caballero uses schematic forms meticulously brushed onto the canvas that lend his work a graphic quality. By exerting a process of perpetual doing and undoing, composition and decomposition, his paintings tend to escape traditional categorisations to expose their own logic. #carloscaballero #exhibition #brussels #art #contemporaryart #artgallery #galeriegretameert
