Crazy shot from @gatorboys_chris 🐍 ・・・
A large cottonmouth showing off it’s namesake, the “cotton white” inside of the mouth as a threat display. Cottonmouths, also commonly called water moccasins, are very common venomous aquatic pit vipers with a defensive nature that often leads to outlandish stories of aggression in the minds of the fearful. Some cottonmouths are certainly VERY defensive, this individual is giving me its defensive posture and struck when I moved closer, but in the literal THOUSANDS I have caught I have never seen one that was “aggressive”, as in not defending itself but choosing to go out of its way to bite. There are many claims of people being chased, but almost all result in the person being between the animal and a place of safety, such as being between the snake and the water or bushes it uses as a refuge. The same happens with gators, many stories of snakes/gators rushing right at someone only to go past them/under the boat so the animal can hide in deeper water or brush. If you get between an animal and it’s safety/hiding place it’ll often go at or through to get to it’s safe place. I’ve heard so many accounts “no you don’t understand it came right at me while I was fishing on the bank(or in a boat between the bank and deep water) and it tried to chase me”....then disappeared underwater/in the brush. It’s not attacking, they’re just blocking it’s safety, albeit unknowingly and unintentionally. Snakes will also sometimes climb onto a boat to get out of the water, but for the snake this is about being out of the water not next to the human. Always respect wildlife, don’t kill snakes!!! Yesterday I turned 29.
This year I am going to be focusing on truly loving myself, bare and all. I’ve always used makeup as my crutch and have only felt beautiful when wearing it instead of loving myself the way God created me. I also am going to focus on loving my body and going to learn to be more gentle with myself. So here’s to continuing to learn what self love truly means, and loving every part of myself whatever the case may be.💫
@Regran_ed from @susiesseniordogs - (near) MIAMI, FL: Cooper isn't the "life of the party" kind of fella. And that's the beautiful thing about him. Unfortunately, nobody has noticed this shy boy and he's been living at the shelter for the last six years. Adopters' attention goes to the young dogs, the outgoing dogs...basically, the opposite of Cooper. And yet he's so very wonderful! People are missing out! Cooper is an easygoing guy who yearns for a simple lifestyle. He just needs somebody to notice him, that's all. PLEASE SHARE!
A shelter volunteer wrote, "Cooper was surrendered to the shelter after his owner passed away. Cooper is 10 years old and he is such a wonderful dog, he will make a very loyal companion!
Cooper is affectionate, friendly and has a soft and gentle demeanor. He always appreciates any attention given to him. He is calm, easy going, and has a low to moderate energy level. He can be a little shy and reserved at first but after you spend some time with him you can tell that he really wants to be loved.
Due to the fact that Cooper is a little shy with new people, he has been at the shelter for 6 years since most adopters prefer outgoing and younger dogs. He is currently sharing his kennel with another easygoing female mate and they get along very well. He will do best with a dog who has a similar laid back personality, or he will be fine as an only dog. Cooper is not very demanding and is looking for that special person or family who can take him home and give him a comfy bed.
It's a small shelter so transport is not available - adopters will need to drive to the shelter to adopt Cooper in person." To adopt Cooper, please email [email protected] with questions or to set up a meet-and-greet.
