“When Our Heavens Reflect”
Today's photo has left me in deep thought again 💭 but please bear with me & I will try to explain my muddled mind 😂 Various times in the past myself & many others have mentioned how small we all are in our vast dark universe. I still agree 100% that our planet is a mere grain of sand in a beach that runs for infinity. However, small certainly does not mean insignificant!
No matter how tiny we seem or how far away the stars are in our vast/lonely universe, they still shine their bright lights over us each night. Some will believe its my fancy camera or that I’m just wrong because they themselves have never seen starlight reflect like this before, but I ask you… Have you ever gone outside in total darkness looking for it before reading this post? It’s one of those natural wonders you normally overlook due to always being surrounded by artificial lights.
I apologise if I’m rambling what seems like nonsense but it’s difficult to put into words what I felt whilst standing under this starlight that night. I believe if we are important enough to be bathed in starlight from every conceivable angle in our universe, light which travelled billions of years just to reach us & arrives so strong that it reflects off you, me & everything else on earth, then we must all be very significantly important in the overall grand scheme of things 🙏
We invite you to get lost in the Connemara region, which harbours the most ancient traditions in a genuine Irish landscape. In little pockets along the ragged coast, in areas called the Gaeltacht, people still speak the Irish language. The sounds of uileann pipes and tin whistes flood the lively pubs of the area. If you take yourself inland, you will discover the Twelve Bens mountain range, a mountain range with peaks between 500 and 700 meters, which delight the hikers in summer.
This is me in Donegal a few years ago sporting a lichen-stache.
I always thought of lichen as a moss, but it's not. It grows out of a symbiotic relationship between algae and fungus, and when it hangs in big clumps off trees and rocks, it makes everything look very Lord of the Rings.
Anyway, it's highly sensitive to pollutants so you only find it growing naturally in places where the air is pure.
As you can imagine, it's all over the place in Ireland since our air comes rolling in off the Atlantic.
That's actually one of my favorite things about living here: how lovely and fresh the air is. Nothing I love more than starting each day with a few big whiffs of it!
Air, that is. Not lichen.
Seen any lately?
Lichen, that is. Not air. 😂

Yesterday's losing pic? I wouldnt call it that by any means - we nearly stumbled upon this one looking for a different blow hole around the coast...... The conversation went something like "you stand there and stay still when the wave comes"..... "are you serious?!" 😂 this also was not the biggest one to come in while we were there, but unfortunately I wasn't in the right place to shoot it.
Check out my stories for the lead up to this shot, and a few others 😜
