Love this little thatched gingerbread cottage in Bourn, Cambridgeshire captured by @lensereflection. What a perfect proportioned place to spend a Sunday after a hearty meal in the local pub, in front of a traditional log fire. Bliss!
Don't you just love places steeped in history? Bourn has existed as a settlement for over a thousand years with Roman remains have been found. Three tumuli (ancient burial mounds) on Alms Hill are of Roman and Danish origin and the two which were excavated in 1909 contained Roman coins and pottery, a Celtic button and evidence of Danish feasting commemorating the death of a leader or celebrating a victory around 1010. No word if they found any slightly salted Lurpak butter.
Have a wonderful Sunday! I'm off to hike around my local frosty forest. Kindle, Flask of coffee and picnic packed. Great shot by @lensereflection 🇬🇧 Hey! The sign on the gate says “Old Forge Cottage.” 🌿🏡🌿 Been a bit of a homebody myself lately, which means I don’t have many current seasonal photos to share. And I’m not quite ready to go into full holiday mode. 🌿 So I think this is a good time to just take a little break from Instagram until the end of the month. In the meantime Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the rest of the month to everyone. 🍁🍁🍁 #Cottage#oldforgecottage#englishcottage#takeabreak#lovewhereyoulive#fall
Today I regretted not taking my son on an outing to one of the conservation areas around me. My wife had our daughter out, and my back was bothering me a bit (4 herniated discs can sometimes do that to ya!), so I wasn't the most motivated to get my gear set to head out with him. Also, he's the Tasmanian Devil so I was also picturing chasing him around. But at the end of the night, I feel like I did a disservice to him and to me, by sitting around the house.
This way of thinking has to fundamentally change for me. Though my back was annoying, I could have still made a short trip out of it and found a way to get it done. It was just a matter of doing it.
This picture is from when my daughter (in the middle) turned 1 and we went up to a cottage for the weekend. It was also taken when I had my second worst flare up in my back (had to be driven to the hospital after 6 hours of pacing in the halls, unable to sit, lay down, or stand still). My worst flare up was this summer and is still ailing me to this day.
So 3 years have passed since this picture, and my back is still an issue. And throughout this time, I've been able to get out and do some outdoor activities, though not as much as I'd like. But I've also lacked the motivation to get up and go outside with them separate from these trips. I've done the car camping and such, but it's the everyday stuff that matters. It's the weekly walks to the park (it's dark by the time they get home in the weekdays now) that matter. The trips to the forests or even the wood lot by our house. It's the small things that matter. And those are what I need to hold on to. Because these small things will be adults before I know it, and I won't be able to go on our outings any longer.

Oscar and Millie modelling the burnished concrete alfresco area 🐶🐶 We are so happy that this low maintenance and cost effective flooring choice for our alfresco turned out so amazing! Easy to maintain, just get into Italian Nonno mode and hose it down when it needs a clean 🙈😂
