Being back in London always feels like putting on a familiar warm & comforting sweater.
London is one of my favourite walking cities & often it tells you where to go.

I flew to London & was transported back to when I lived in Londontown many years ago. A lot has definitely changed. This exit for London Bridge tune was new to me.

The Spanish Steps is one of the very few places where you are encouraged to loiter & sit on the steps.

A very common sight in Rome’s street corners: the roasted chestnuts street vendors. It appears that Romans love their chestnut snacks as they go shopping or walking around in the evenings. There’s a vendor in almost every street.

The glow of Patatine Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome & the most ancient part of the city, as seen from Circus Maximus, the site of ancient Roman chariot races.

I’m really glad to have seen Rome without any particular agenda, just on the whims of what my eyes saw as I walked & walked.

The Colosseum absorbing much of the evening light. A last walkabout before I left for London.

Enroute to see the encased decapitated head of John the Baptist at San Silvestro in Capite, I was rewarded with this wonderful courtyard. This church was built in the 8th century & it’s the most random display of things put together. Yes, I included a photo of the encased head.

The Vatican from afar. The beauty of revisiting a major city like Rome is that I can just enjoy Rome without queuing for anything. What a timesaver.

Have you heard about Quartiere Coppedè, this wonderfully odd intersection of buildings that a mish mash of architectural designs? Named after its architect, Gino Coppedè, who worked on this area until his death. Worth a visit when in Rome.

Campo dei Fiori is known for its day market but I prefer the night atmosphere of this piazza esp with the ominous statue of Giordano Bruno, a philosopher, standing in the middle. He was burned at the stake during the Inquisition for heresy. His statue was resurrected by Freemasons, at the very spot he was killed, as a response of defiance against the Pope. You can standby anywhere in Rome & there will be an interesting story behind it.

Aperitivo in Italy is an important part of the day. It goes from 6pm-9pm & meant as a precursor to dinner, which normally starts after 9pm. I usually don’t participate in aperitivo because I tend to get too full from the snacks. I have terrible discipline. This was a delicious strawberry caipirinha with homemade chips though.

From the Amalfi, there’s a local bus to Ravello which is situated on the cliffs above the sea. Please visit Ravello because it is such a special place. #cammiexEU

Amalfi and when I glanced at the water, I realized that I had made a mistake not carrying my swimsuit with me. The weather said it was going to be cloudy but it was actually warm & perfect. 🤦🏻♀️ #cammiexEU

The beachfront of Atrani overlooking the Amalfi Coast. The afternoon turned out to be lot better than forecasted. Off season travel is wonderful because normally imagine yourself sitting shoulder to shoulder with everyone else.
Heading out to more areas along the Amalfi Coast today. It is quite a dreamy place & I finally get it now that I’m here. #cammiexEU

Duomo Di Salerno, circa 1080, was originally built as Romanesque & eventually incorporated Baroque & Arab influences throughout the cathedral. It’s dedicated to St Matthew whose relics are stored in the crypt below. I experienced quite a heavy feeling when I was walking down there. #cammiexEU

Back to Salerno to walk along the waterfront with everyone else, enjoying the rest of their Sunday evening in the Amalfi Coast. #cammiexEU
Taking advantage of the light whilst in Vietri Sul Mare. It’s really quite a quaint town with a glaringly obvious pride over their ceramics.

Just before heading back to Salerno, I stopped by Vietri Sul Mare. A town well known for producing ceramics. I think this was a more interesting town. #cammiexEU

I couldn’t have anticipated being able to be on the Amalfi Coast because it was normally out of reach for me but with a bit of luck in good weather in October, here I am. Off season with just Italians and Europeans mostly. #cammiexEU
Finally arrived in Salerno & had a lot of the afternoon to explore. B&B owner suggested the neighbouring Cetara so off I went. Cetara in the afternoon. #cammiexEU

I had a spectacularly terrible travelling day to Italy so please enjoy the sunset from Arrábida beach on my last night in Portugal.

I spent my last day in Portugal enjoying one of the beaches in Arrábida Park - Galapinhos Beach, a secret beach amongst the residents in the area & only became known when it appeared in a Portuguese novella.

Sesimbra’s other claim to fame is at the Monumento Natural da Pedra da Mua, the site where dinosaur prints were discovered on the surface of the rocks. It’s not just one print but a walking trekking prints. It’s super neat. One runs along the rocks that you have to see from afar and the other you can hike to for a closer look. #cammiexEU
