Ready for a fresh start this fall? Before we can fully pursue new goals and the fresh start fall brings, we need to clear out what’s holding us back. Getting rid of clutter makes space for what we truly love and want to welcome more of into our lives.
I’m not just talking about physical clutter – although science says that it does have a massive effect on your mental and emotional health – but in addition to things you can clear out of your house, I’ve also listed things you should de-clutter from your digital life and even your soul in the blog post I’m re-sharing from last year. There’s nothing like moving and unpacking to motivate me to declutter! This room by room decluttering checklist is perfect to tackle before your major fall cleaning or a goal setting session - or a move 😂

Saturday morning my last living grandparent, my namesake, my beloved grandpa Wendell died. Two hours later I was attending the funeral of the mother of one of my dearest friends. .
Death makes one really reflect on your life and causes you to question what difference you are making in the world. As I sat listening to the beautiful messages of the service, I began to question what legacy would I have left behind if I died today? .
But I quickly reflected on the previous night and our visit to Chik Fil A. We ordered our food at the counter and while our cashier filled our drinks, my daughter asked how to say the name of n the girls nametag. So I said it for her.
We grabbed our drinks and before turning to leave, my six-year old daughter said, "thank you Madelynne!"
Wanna know where she learned it? From me. I never leave a store without thanking the people helping me by name. Even the bagger boy is shocked when I call him by name. I stay off my phone and I talk to people. It may sound simple and not important, but I believe I'm teaching my kids to have human connection. I'm teaching them to be polite.
What lessons are you proud to teach your children? What priorities could you work on?
“Rest time is not waste time. It is economy to gather fresh strength... It is wisdom to take occasional furlough. In the long run, we shall do more by sometimes doing less.”
Every year we have a week where I feel like it’s the kick off to our Fall season. It tends to epitomize a seasonal change and marks the beginning of our “busy season”. That was last week for us!! Every second felt scheduled and over flowing. What I have learned from years past to survive my busy season is I have to be very intentional about rest and actually schedule it. Rest is just as important as the work, taking a deep breath, reflecting, and being quiet enough, still enough, to hear God. So, if you are like me and it feels like every second is scheduled, make sure to schedule your rest. It’s currency will pour over to your passions and productivity. Taking a moment for myself this morning... standby for reboot.

Ever wonder how to layer pattern? Yeah, it’s a thing, people get super intimidated! It’s easier then you think, and this is a masterful example of how it works by the fabulous @flyingpaloma ❤️ Layering pattern is something I talk a lot about on the blog. Hop on over!
Can we extend the weekend by one more day?? It’s rainy and gloomy here. Wishing I could have a weekend breakfast this morning instead of a sad cup of office coffee. 🍳🥓 Hope everyone’s week is off to a wonderful start!
I have always thought I was a good cook. And then I realized I was good at cooking recipes. Unfortunately that didn’t make me a good cook.
Then I found a book called Ratio and guess what? I don’t need to use recipes to make breads, sauces, vinaigrette and batters. All I need to know is the ratio of the ingredients.
I know what you are thinking. Huh? 🙈
The ratio for salad dressing is 3 parts oil: 1 part vinegar. Just use that ratio to make any salad dressing you want. Or use the bread ratio of 5 parts flour: 3 parts water and a pinch of yeast and salt. Add any herbs or fruit or nuts or cheese and you can make any bread you want! Without a recipe.
Head to my blog today (link is in profile) for my story about how one book changed my way of cooking forever. It’s the best $12 I have ever spent.
Good Morning Friends ! Hope y’all had a fab weekend . I’m running a little slow this morning , but that’s pretty norm for me on Mondays . I’m on my 2nd cup or 3rd cup of coffee☕️☕️☕️, but who’s counting . 🤷🏻♀️
Yesterday was one of those phenomenally victorious days of errands and shopping. Aren’t those the absolute best?!
The boyfriend and I FINALLY found a foyer table for this mudroom, and you’re getting a sneak peak of her in this shot! She’s made of real wood and weighs about 600lbs 😵 but she’s perfect and worth it. We also found the perfect table for a wet bar station in the dining room, which you’ll see soon! Without even trying to be funny, the boo said, “So our bourbons will sit on top of it?” instead of “liquor” 😂 yes we have multiple brands of bourbon and they’re the only liquor we currently own. Not sorry about it at all. Cheers. ✨🥃🥃✨
The rest of our day involved returning a few items lingering around the house, finally finding the perfect lightbulbs at Lowe’s that are NEVER in stock, grabbing Chemex filters, finding the perfect rug for our laundry room (which you’ll see soon as well), and finding a few more plants for the house like the one you see above Madi. Like, if we wanted to achieve it yesterday, we were gonna. It was unreal. I wish all errand days were like that. 😛 #greatdanesofinstagram
This will be our first fall time and Halloween at our new / first home, and I went a little crazy @walmart with the fall decor! Ok? But they had SUCH GOOD DEALS! I feel like every home needs a hay bale...or 3 as a fall staple...right?!⠀
HAPPY MONDAY, FRIENDS!!!⠀
DID YOU SEE MY FALL HOME TOUR!? 🍂 (You can watch the entire tour in my saved stories in highlights.) Also, don't miss my bestie Amy @myrustichouse
Fall tour today!!!! 🤗🍂
One thing I've been getting alot of questions about is my hanging shelf in my kitchen. It's such an easy project!!🙌
This was an antique oversized bread board (but you could use an old ladder or even a regular board cut to size) that we drilled holes into and added thick rope. We put small hooks into the ceiling and that's it!!! They look great hanging over tables or islands!!!! (Check my stories to see two other super talented ladies who have hanging shelves!) .
🍂🍂You can get the details on how we painted our cabinets in my saved stories too. .
🍂🍂Candles on my tier tray are from @bridgewayscentedmarket.
