“Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present” ~ Bill Keane.
I’ve quoted this one before, but it has so much truth. I’ve heard many times that one key to relaxation, meditation, and therapy is to be more present. That seems so difficult today with the saturation of ever-present distractors. Even the act of me writing this post is a bit ironic. I am at fault for being too connected to my phone at times rather than always being present.
This is part of the reason why I’ve gravitated toward hiking so much. Hiking always has a way of pulling me into the present. I can’t hike while scrolling through social media stories, partly because I have no service, but most importantly, because my body needs to focus. “There’s a rock, step over it. Or step on it. Is it stable? Am I drinking enough water? How’s my breathing? In through my nose. Out through my mouth. I need to adjust my hip straps. What’s that sound? What’s that smell?” Focusing on these things keeps my mind from wandering too far from the present. Hiking forces me to be mentally present wherever I am physically. And that’s when I’m happiest.
Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain. | Jack Kerouac ⛰

As the year draws closer to the end, I love seeing people post about crushing their hiking goals! So amazing and inspiring. Is there a hiking goal you set for yourself in the beginning of the year and have completed? What accomplishment are you most proud of?
John Muir said we should saunter, not hike, and saunter we did! We took our time soaking in the majestic sights of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, appreciating the changing colors indicating the end of alpine adventure season. Until next year ALW, you majestic beast! 🍻 🐐
After some time in the desert and some good quality talks, I need to re-evaluate the things I hold as idols in my life. Social media being a big one. I spend a pretty good amount of time bouncing between app to app. Therefore, I’m taking a 7 day fast from the wicked thing! If you don’t hear from me, I’ll be giving my neck a break from lookin down and start lookin up👌🏽
So glad I get to do life with this guy. He makes me laugh every single day, has patience when I don’t, and shares my love of Qdoba. And chips and salsa 💕
If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try. 🌉😎

Dad: “Ok turn around so I can take your picture.”
Me: “No, just take it this way.”
Dad: “But I’m taking a picture of your back?”
Me: “I don’t know. That’s what the cool kids on Insta are doing. Don’t question it.”
My dad wouldn’t be my dad if he didn’t give me a hard time about that. Thanks for pointing out the idiocy, dad 😂🤷🏻♀️. But most of all thank you for letting me drag you on two 9 mile hikes back-to-back and for being the best company!
