  • “Danse Macabre” (16” x 12” on stretched cotton-duck), Sold. . We don’t really do Halloween so much here, but I know it’s popular in the U.S. and elsewhere – I DO like the Mexican Day of The Dead idea, though. But, since there’s a *‘Halloween-orange and chimney-red’ horror still squatting at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Halloween should be spectacularly disquieting and horrifying for you folks in Washington DC this year! . So here’s haunted painting from a couple of years back entitled “Danse Macabre”, and here’s an edited version of the original post for the Art Historians out there: . The Danse Macabre (The Dance of Death or Totentanz) is a fascinating genre in Art and was represented, particularly in Northern Europe (not so much in the south, though there are noted examples in Spain and Italy), and especially in France, England, and Germany. It is believed that the earliest visual example (1424–25) is from the cemetery of the Church of the Holy Innocents in Paris, which bordered Rue Saint-Denis. Sadly, the wall and cemetery are long gone, and there is no visual record of the painting. . The Danse Macabre genre reminds the viewer that Death is universal, irrespective of one’s station in life, reminding us, too, of the fragility of life: momento mori, tempus fugit. Thus, usually, Death is personified as a skeleton, beckoning representatives from all walks of life to dance along to the grave. In my painting, Death is lifted from a late-Medieval depiction, and his dancers are drawn from the animal kingdom: a rabbit, a fox, a cat, and a goose (for some unknown reason). . So, I guess it doesn’t matter how much gold and narcissistic adulation you acquire, you still end up with the tap on the shoulder, and the bony finger pointing to a stone😂. . * “Franks Wild Years” (Tom Waits) #danceofdeath #halloween #skeleton #redfox #fox #goose #cat #catsofinstagram #bunny #totentanz #dancmacabre

  • This is Murphy, the Greylag Goose. He lost his mate this year and their 7 goslings. The researcher said that he is her favorite and she feeds him when the others are not looking. She let me feed him a bit and now we are friends? Maybe...I really like him anyway. Not sure it is mutual. #goose #Austria

  • Trying to get a nice picture of #Windermere is hard work. Especially with Canadian tourists walking around like they own the place.
